As a new year arrives, there are lots of new films to look forward to. This year, there are quite a number of science fiction movies that are about to be released. The themes of these upcoming films are parallel universes, time travel, and intelligent robots. Here are some sci-fi films coming this 2015:

Tomorrowland

                The Disney brand is normally associated with images of smiley characters in vibrant backdrops. Unlike your typical childhood Disney film, Tomorrowland has a darker, more eerie theme. The film is about a scientifically curious girl named Casey Newton, who receives a pin that, when touched, can transport her to a different world (also named Tomorrowland). She then meets a washed-up genius named Frank Walker who also knows about the place. Together, they go on a journey to find Tomorrowland.

Chappie

                It is the year 2016 and the police force needs some extra manpower. Thus, a force of police robots was created. However, one of them is more intelligent than the others. Although created to aid the police, Chappie is discovered to be capable of thinking, learning, and feeling. He is considered a threat by authorities, who then set out to destroy him.

Ex Machina

                The year 2015 brings another film about artificially intelligent robots. In Ex Machina, a company gives a young employee, Caleb, the opportunity to have a weeklong vacation at a mountain resort. However, once he arrives there, he is tasked to participate in an experiment: to interact with an artificially intelligent female robot, and evaluate its humanlike qualities.

Project Almanac

                There have been many films about time travel before, but Project Almanac is unique because it also has elements of fun and comic relief. Project Almanac is a film about a group of high schoolers who discover an old prototype of a time machine. They continue building it, and they were able to get it to work. They then use the machine for various pranks, recreating good memories, and redoing failed class reports. However, they discover that there are plenty of consequences to their actions.

There are also a number of movie franchises with installments that have upcoming releases this 2015. They need no explanation because, unless you live under a social-media-barring rock, you’re probably already familiar (and excited) for them already.
