Take me to your Leaders
by Richard Bunyi
We’re already in the middle of the first semester and people, most likely, have already gotten a feel of CompSAt. However, if you’re still a little alien to this whole org thing, perhaps it’s time to get to know the people behind it all; perhaps it’s time for us to take you to your leaders, the Executive Board and Associates Council.
You can usually find Patrick Chua doing all sorts of things, from doing homework to playing Monster Hunter (among other games), on one of the benches of MVP 303. His laid back attitude makes him easy to approach although usually, he’s friendly enough to be the one to approach you. Despite this casual demeanor, he takes his work as President of CompSAt seriously. You can’t expect any less from him especially since he is responsible for overseeing all of the activities and operations of the organization. He also represents us to the Office of Student Activities (OSA) and to other organizations.
This boisterous tambay at the org room is CompSAt’s Executive Vice President. His constant enthusiasm (and his luscious beard) helps keep the unique CompSAt sabaw-ness alive and kicking. You’ll never see a quiet day in the org room as long as Jansen Ignacio is around. He is generally friendly to other members, both old and new. As EVP, it’s his job to oversee all the projects of CompSAt and to assist Patrick in his administrative duties.
The role of the Secretary General is basically documentation and publication. The Secretary General is responsible for coordinating the documentation of all projects and overseeing information dissemination and publication. It’s amazing how Issa Nuguid can handle those alongside her personal and academic life. If that’s not amazing enough though, note that she also is responsible for managing the archives and calendar of CompSAt, organizing the Year End Report, and tracking members involved in projects.
The people who’ve become project secretaries might already know this guy well. He’s the one responsible for the documentation of CompSAt projects which includes but is not limited to collecting project kits. Carlo De Guzman is the Associate Vice President for Documentation. He also helps Issa with managing the archives and tracking members involved in CompSAt operations. If you don’t know this guy because of his job as an AVP, you might know him because of his musical skills or his generally friendly personality. If you’re a freshie, you might even know him because of his SecMob experience.
This smoldering piece of hot stuff is inconceivably amazing in every aspect. The sheer magnificence of his existence permeates the world and is the reason the sun shines every day. A small fraction of the perfection that is Richard Bunyi is dedicated to information dissemination and publication as per his duties as Associate Vice President for Publications.
Though refreshingly modest in contrast to CompSAt’s usual kulit, Ria Tecson isn’t the type to shy away from talk. It would be a little problematic if she were, especially since she’s the Vice President for External Affairs. As her title suggests, Ria is responsible for overseeing activities and operations involving most external entities. She’s the one who represents CompSAt to its alumni, other schools and universities, other organizations and departments in the Ateneo, and communities touched by our outreach programs.
As the Associate Vice President for Community Relations, you can think of Regine Regino as a sort of mother (or grandmother, as some people would put it) to the children at BitCamp. You see, she’s the one in charge of looking after CompSAt’s outreach projects. It’s not just outreach programs though, she also oversees speaking engagements and generally all projects that allow CompSAt members to assist in building the nation.
Mark Aldecimo is one of the only three sophies in the Associates Council. Like the other two, that fact doesn’t diminish the quality of his performance as the Associate Vice President for Scholastic Relations. In fact, even as a freshie, he was involved in CompSAt’s relations with other schools and universities like those in the Philippine Computing Organization Alliance, which is basically what the AVP for Scholastic Relations does.
You’d probably describe Chelsea Manzano with this word if you see her: otis – That or you could use the word hyper. She never runs out of energy or, to be more accurate, she never runs low on energy. She’s part of the Babble Brass and ENTA among other things. She’s also CompSAt’s Associate Vice President for University Relations. Being a member of all those orgs might come in handy especially since it’s her job to communicate with entities within the Ateneo.
Our Vice President for Finance and Marketing isn’t really one that’s hard to spot. Faith Tango is almost always smiling and she is almost always in a skirt. She’s the person responsible for everything money related. Whether it be the managing the org’s money, getting money from companies, or establishing fundraisers, it’s her job. If you need money for a project, she’s the one to talk to. Oh by the way, don’t get surprised if you see her eat. This girl’s thin physique is really unfairly disproportionate to her huge appetite.
The resident pretty boy of the Associates Council, EJ Magdaluyo attracts partners and sponsors for the organization. That’s his job as Associate Vice President for Corporate Relations. He markets CompSAt, basically. If he’s not swaying companies into hooking up with CompSAt, you might find him at Mineski, playing LoL with his friends. Just a quick piece of trivia: he was once featured in Mineski’s best plays of the week.
Most people like spicy food. Our Associate Vice President for Finance loves them. Eating pizza with Paul Virrey when there’s sufficient hot sauce will leave you baffled at his tolerance for spiciness. To a certain degree, he also has tolerance for stress. Perhaps his work as an AVP (managing financial resources, tracking expenses and income of CompSAt projects, and handling the fundraising events) or perhaps his many other responsibilities as a scholar helped him hone this trait.
There are a lot of cheery people in CompSAt and Bea Danseco is one of them. She is constantly full of energy and enthusiasm. Unlike the usual rabble however, Bea directs her energy to serving CompSAt as its Vice President for Internal Affairs. She oversees internal activities such as general assemblies and parties. Member development and formation is also on her agenda. She oversees all things related to the package system as well as the Leadership Development Seminar. Oh, and she likes hedgehogs.
A pretty face with an awesome voice, Mara Asok is a rather eye-catching member of the Associates Council. Her charm, enthusiasm, and creativity all contribute to doing a good job as the Associate Vice President for Events. Essentially, that means bringing people together through CompSAt’s internal events like general assemblies, parties, and recreational activities. That’s not all there is to Mara as she’s also a member of AMP.
The job of the Associate Vice President for Formation is to devise methods to strengthen member development and participation. The AVP for Formation also handles activities that try to develop the future leaders of CompSAt. The package system, the leadership development program and the associated events are all handled by this person. This person is Justin Lim. He’s one of the friendly faces in CompSAt that’s hard to miss. If you find yourself high-fiving a random person in the org room, consider that that might be Justin.
Don’t let her quiet side fool you. This girl is full of spunk. Not only is Alliya Cucueco an avid gamer, she can also pack a mean punch when you ask for it. Another thing that really sets her apart from the rest is her position as Vice President for Logistics and Promotions. She’s responsible for manpower assignment and deployment for CompSAt’s projects as well as the creation and propagation of any promotional material.
Our Associate Vice President for Logistics this year is a little hard to see. Camille Ruiz doesn’t hang out in the org room too much but rest assured she does her job. She works behind the scenes, ensuring that the implementation of projects goes well. She assigns logistics heads to our projects who ensure that we have venues in which to hold our events. She also handles manpower allocation for projects and activities. She’s good at video editing and she likes Philo and Math. If you want to start a conversation with her, those are probably good places to start.
Remember those awesome Pokémon posters and props during RecWeek? Remember those awesome package pins given out during CompSAt XP? Remember the CompSAt team posters? If you love those then you’ll love this guy too. As the Associate Vice President for Promotions, Bagani Sularte is in charge of not only creating but also overseeing the creation of promotional paraphernalia and other design materials for CompSAt. He also handles ProCreate alongside the other two members of his department.
You’d think that being the only junior in the Executive Board would be too much pressure for one person but you’ll find Myreen Repizo proving you wrong. She’s the Vice President for Research and Development and she’s doing that job rather well. She oversees all programs and activities geared towards I.T. related projects such as web development, training programs focusing on I.T. related skills, and academic support sessions. Despite all the work and pressure, you’ll find that Myreen always has the time to socialize with other members, both old and new.
I bet the freshies out there still remember the awesome OrSem website this year. To those who do, here’s the guy behind it. He also took part in the development of compsat.org as well as several other websites. As local master of web dev and the Associate Vice President for Development, he heads the team in charge of developing websites, software solutions, and information systems. This awesome guy is none other than Mark Cinco.
Much like the perpetually smiling fast food employees, our Associate Vice President for Services is full of friendliness and energy. The difference is that for our Aids Perez, it’s neither compulsory nor fake. It’s not really required for his job but it’s a rather nice bonus to be working with someone like that. What is required of his job is the carrying out of services to the community through technical support or provision of other I.T. related resources.
This man here is the Associate Vice President for Training. His name is Jaudric Matias. He aids in handling training programs for members involving computer application and utilizing technological advancements like ProgVar Lite. He also aids in handling programs like CS 21a Tutorials which provides academic support for members taking I.T. related courses. He also a cool Java accent (obviously, I am not referring to Java, the programming language).
So there you go. Those people are CompSAt’s EB+AC for this school year. If you have any concerns regarding org stuff or even personal stuff, feel free to approach any one of us. Don’t be shy. Even if some look a little alien, we’d always be happy to serve you in any way we can.
