CompSAt is not all about IT; we have a lot more to offer than just programs and Android apps. Believe it or not, we actually have one of the best

Human Resources departments (Internal Affairs or IA) in the Council of Organizations of the Ateneo – Science and Technology Cluster (COA-STC). So before you continue reading this article, drop the bias you have against IT enthusiasts… or our sexiness might offend you.

Mac and Issa, Tag Team FTW

Who said that nerds can’t play ball? The CompSpikers will surely prove you wrong. They’re not only a group of volleyball enthusiasts; they also compete in the IAC Volleyball Tournament against the other orgs. Volleyball is a competitive sport, after all, and we’re only seeing the beginning for this promising group of players. “The group was formed just last year. We joined the 2011 IAC Tournament, but we have a training pool for those who just want to learn [to play volleyball and not compete].” (Cabatbat)

CompSpikers is one of CompSAt’s Hobbies and Interests Teams (or HITS, formerly known as IA Teams). “The group is actually more concerned with camaraderie and team building [rather] than competing and winning,” (Cabatbat) which is why they don’t distinguish between experienced and inexperienced players. Everyone has to undergo the same processes: application, drills, training, everything. “I think the only time we distinguish them is during free play. We make sure that the experienced players are equally distributed between the groups. [Just to] make sure that no team is at a disadvantage.” (Cabatbat)

They are CompSAt’s official volleyball team. They play volleyball because it’s fun. Win or lose, they’re happy enough to be playing with their friends, the people who matter most. From this, we can say that “In CompSpikers, everyone is indeed part of the team.”

Oh, and one more thing. In case you forgot, volleyball is a sport. Playing a sport maintains a healthy body. It’s definitely one of the reasons why we say that “geek is the new sexy”. 😉
