Hello gamers! It’s time for a retro game review. We will be focusing on one of the most memorable platformer, Super Mario 64. The game starts with the princess inviting Mario for a cake she just made, only to get kidnapped again in her own castle by Bowser with the power of the castle’s stars.

Not Again.

Super Mario 64 is awesome.  Aside from being able to move freely in a whole new 3D world, you can do things that you can’t on those 2D sidescrolling Mario games like maybe kicking off a wall or doing a somersault. It also helps that the world they put you in is vast and flexible, meaning you can try different methods to get to specific locations. There are also new gameplay mechanics involved – Mario doesn’t get one-hitted anymore and instead have 6 life bars where you get kicked out of a world if it is depleted. There are also new power-ups like the Wing cap which allows you to fly. However, be careful because in certain levels Mario’s cap will get blown away and you have to get it back or suffer a penalty which increases the damage you take from enemies.

What makes Super Mario 64 memorable is the time spent on pouring dozens of hours in the game, going level through level just to beat the game, and even after beating it, there are still plenty of post-game things to do like getting the special caps. It also helps that you can go through the game without collecting all the stars, so you can enjoy yourself playing, without worrying about that specific star you can’t get, and try again later. The world of Super Mario 64 encourages you to explore – from hidden paths to solving puzzles, you won’t notice the hours that have gone by.
