Upcoming October CompSAt Events

Another month is ending! Now, the cold weeks of October and rainy days are frequenting Metro Manila. The chilly atmosphere just makes you want to lie in bed and sleep all day.

But of course, CompSAt does not plan to be idle this coming month. The organization has prepared exciting events that will surely help new and old members alike in more ways than one.

Let’s see what CompSAt has planned for this month!

October 9: ComPress x Wildcard General Assembly

Wildcard and ComPress are the two CompSAt teams responsible for documenting events. Wildcard mainly deals with writing and publishing articles relevant to the organization, to the CS course, or to anything related to IT. ComPress, on the other hand, is in charge of taking photos for CompSAt events.

A general assembly exclusively for the members of both teams will be held not only to welcome the new members, but also to provide an initial avenue for the members to bond with the with one another. This general assembly aims to familiarize everyone with the processes of Wildcard and ComPress, and to form camaraderie within and between the two teams.

It will certainly be enlightening and entertaining to the members who will attend!

October 16: Project Management Seminar

In the month of September, CompSAt launched the Project Head Hunt (PH Hunt), a search for potential Project Heads among current members. Each CompSAt event will be handled by at least one Project Head. They will need to manage their core team, think on their feet, be ready for any worst-case scenario, and overall, take responsibility for the entirety of their assigned project.

That said, they will need to be prepared. The Project Management Seminar will brief Project Heads about the proper protocols when it comes to managing projects. . This, of course, will not only be for the Project Heads. Possible core team members are highly encouraged to attend to learn more about what their duties entail.

Above all else, this seminar is a bonding experience for all teams in order to make things easier for them when they start working together.

Tips, advice, and some  leadership training will be given in a fun and meaningful manner to everyone who will attend.

2nd Week of October: Web Development Tutorials

These tutorials are open to all who are interested, including non-CompSAt members. Members of the Web Dev team, in partnership with Orange and Bronze Software Labs, Inc., one of CompSAt’s sponsors this year, will teach the participants the basics of programming and developing websites.

These tutorials are generally held in computer laboratories so that participants can have hands-on experiences by testing out all the concepts and tips they will learn from the Web Dev team.

JavaScript, HTML, PHP —  learn the basics!

October 19: Development Sessions

Development Sessions are held exclusively for the members of the Dev Team who undergo extensive training to prepare them for future projects. Through these sessions, they will learn more of JavaScript, HTML, PHP, and other programming languages that can be used for designing and developing websites.

These sessions aim to deepen the participants’ knowledge of web and mobile development, and, of course, to further the relationship between the members.

3rd Week of October: CS Tutorials

Midterms and long tests are fast approaching! How does one study for them? CompSAt plans to hold a number of tutorial sessions for CS majors who wants to review lessons from their CS subjects.

CompSAt members with CS expertise will hold tutorial sessions, refreshing the students’ knowledge on, the important concepts of any CS subject. Usually, the sessions focus on CS110: Data Structure and Algorithms, and CS21a: Introduction to Computing, which cater mostly to the first and second year students. Since CS21a midterms have already done, the next sessions will be more on CS110 concepts.

CompSAt’s upcoming October events will certainly put an educational twist to the coming month! As members of this beloved organization, we invite you all to participate in each of them. We hope the members have an exciting October!
