Upcoming September CompSAt Events

The end of August is nigh! As the first month of the semester passes, you will most likely be busy with heavy academic stuff. But don’t let those stop you from having fun or taking a break once in a while. CompSAt offers you ways to temporarily take your mind off school work or to pursue your IT-related interests.

September 14-18: CompSAt XP Week

XP Week invites all CompSAt members, new and old, to take this chance to mingle with other members. It aims to be the ultimate bonding experience, especially for the freshmen who still haven’t had the chance to meet their upperclassmen. It also intends to welcome new members and invite the old members back into the organization. Gaming consoles, video games, board games, and card games are usually provided to help members find the common interests of one another.

September 14: CompSAt XP Launch

For this event, veteran CompSAt members introduce the new members to the org. What is CompSAt? What is its purpose? What can members do? What are packages? These are only a few of the many questions CompSAt’s XP Launch will answer for the newbies.

September 18: CompSAt General Assembly

CompSAt’s first GA is a more formal event than the XP Launch. This year’s Executive Board and Associates Council will be introduced. In addition, the Sanggunian and the Science and Technology Cluster (STC) will have their respective representatives who will inform students about their groups. And, of course, the members will be officially welcomed by none other than Ms. Jessica Sugay, CompSAt’s Moderator.

September 17: ProgVar Lite

Being the home organization of Computer Science majors, CompSAt also provides additional opportunities to deepen your current programming knowledge. ProgVar Lite is a group that is open to anyone interested in learning programming concepts. They hold regular sessions in one of the Faura computer labs to help students review or advance their CS lessons.

September 18: e-Drive

Electronic waste, when disposed improperly, is hazardous to the community. Old gadgets often leak toxic chemicals and broken appliances take up space that could be used for something else. That’s why CompSAt holds the annual e-Drive; its aim is to raise awareness about the dangers and the proper disposal of electronic waste. In this light, e-Drive’s main effort is to place boxes in strategic locations to collect electronic waste. This way, CompSAt can take on the role of properly disposing of them.

September 19: ACM – Inter-Collegiate Programming Competition (ICPC)

CompSAt regularly hosts programming competitions, especially since it is the Ateneo’s premier IT organization. The ACM-ICPC is one the biggest worldwide programming competitions, which sanctions several local, international, and national contests. College students from all over the country are invited to participate in a battle of agile thinking and quick problem solving.

September 26: Teambuilding

CompSAt’s Teambuilding is an event centered around teamwork, leadership, and, of course, fun! It is a competition among packages where each one’s strengths come into play. Everyone is invited to join and support your respective packages. Cooperation is the key to each package’s success!

September 30: Development Tutorials

To further deepen the IT knowledge of students, CompSAt holds Development Tutorials. This is the first session of many. You can learn a new programming language, some tips about a language you already know, study new IT concepts, and many more. Specifically for this event, the session will tackle the basics of web development using HTML.

CompSAt’s upcoming events will certainly put an exciting twist to your September! As a member of this beloved organization, we invite you all to participate in each of them. Have fun, learn more, and meet CompSAt!
