Meet the Family: CompSAt and MISA Tag-Team

Summer in November: Tag Team 2012

by Javier Flavier

A good number of students under the Department of Information Systems and Computer Science are members of two home organizations: CompSAt, the Computer Society of the Ateneo, and MISA, the Management of Information Systems Association. These two orgs are almost like brothers living under the same roof: they have neighboring rooms on the third floor of MVP, they have a passion for computers, and they even have the same home base in Faura Hall!

Each brother, however, has his own agenda. As a result, they don’t get to hang out too often. They start getting more and more distant from each other, as though they didn’t even know each other—in other words, CompSAt and MISA members do tend to be strangers to each other at times.

But no, this definitely cannot happen! What a horrible tragedy it would be should this ever happen! How must these two brothers renew their friendship?

Well, the best way to remedy this is—what else?—more time with each other, and that’s exactly what Tag Team is for. Summer in November, this year’s Tag Team event, was an opportunity for the members of CompSAt and MISA to bond with each other and have fun, while at the same time avoiding the unusual heat November had to offer.

The first event of Tag Team was Tambay Week in MVP 211. For four days, members of CompSAt and MISA could find solace from the surprisingly unmerciful November heat and release stress over games like Jenga, Uno Stacko, Monopoly Deal, Twister, and DoTA. Members mingled with one another, told stories, laughed, and had fun.

After reuniting with each other and catching up with each other’s lives, the two brothers paid their respects to their parents, the faculty of DISCS.  On DISCS Appreciation Day, CompSAt and MISA members alike showed their thanks to their professors. Students and teachers played games such as “talong relay” and “Pinoy henyo”. Through video presentations, professors were thanked by their students and colleagues. And awards were given to the most participative people during the event.

People say that geeky computer nerds hole themselves up in their lairs doing stuff like messing around with code, among other things; the same cannot be said of the members of CompSAt and MISA. These people, in fact, like going outside and playing sports such as basketball, volleyball, dodgeball, and frisbee, which they did during the Sportsfest held in the college covered courts. Much fun was had as these members ran around getting physical and quenching their thirsts with free Red Bull.

Finally, once all had been said and done, and before life went back to its normal pace, the members of CompSAt and MISA kicked back, relaxed, and enjoyed Grill Night, the culminating activity of Tag Team. Under the clear December night sky, members enjoyed delicious, succulent food right off the grill, the serenades of MISA Musika, the alcoholic beverages served, and the games played involving the said beverages such as beer pong.

With the end of Tag Team 2012, the status quo is restored. CompSAt and MISA members went back to their own businesses, this time interacting every once in a while with a bigger set of friends. Even if this is the case, it can still be said that this year’s Tag Team was a great opportunity for the brothers to bond and reconnect with each other’s lives.
